After setting the timer I push the start button and the dryer will not turn on. If I move the timer dial just a little, the dryer turns on and it will complete the cycle. Any ideal what might be wrong?

Jim,
At this point,

Nothing major, but several possibilities :

What do you mean by "just a little" ?

Pull the timer knob off and check the shaft and clip in the dial knob for being loose or rounded out.

Check the timer shaft for wear and tear and more than 1/16" play in the shaft as you twist it back and forth.

Part number: AP2974231
Part number: AP2974231

Check the timer mounting screws for loose, and timer shifting when the dial/knob is turned.

Good Luck,
