One gas burner needs a new igniter, an easy fix if I can get the cook top up. Each of the four burners is mounted in the cook top with three hex head screws. I was told to remove all twelve screws and the top lifts right up.

The first screw head snapped off as soon as I twisted it. Mr. Advice said, "Oh yeah, they get brittle, be careful."

Great, well I quit "fixing" it, because I can still use the stove this way. If I break off all the screw heads, I'll need new burners, right? I mean, buying four new burners because I need one igniter seems foolish.

Is this really designed this poorly? Is there any other way to get under the burner so I can replace (one phillips head screw) the igniter?

Thanks
