Greetings,
My washer is going out. I have read about the bearings on the drum, but I have never worked on a washer before and need some help. Here are the symptoms. When I manual turn the drum in the back it makes a clank noise over and over. This apply when I turn it forward and backwards.

Any guidance would be much appreciated. I saw a post about replace the steal drum, but the price was the price of a new washing machine.

Sorry, bad news

It sounds like your bearing is out, and there may be damage in the support structure. This happens all to often with these Frigidaire built front loaders.

I think you are looking at a new machine. If you do not absolutely need a front load machine I advise the basic top load washer which will last a lot longer, cost a lot less and be a lot easier to repair if you need to.
