refrig makes loud "popping" noise when shutting off ( as loud as if a bird hit a window..which is what we thought was happenening) is maintaining temps and started doing this about 3 wks ago..is it the relay? this is almost 11 yrs old

This noise most likely is coming from the compressor. Check the compressor mounting legs and if there is nothing wrong the only way to fix it is to replace the compressor.
