We're in Houston and the day after Hurricane Ike hit us, something weird began happening with my Jenn-Air gas stove: the gas flame looks normal but if I leave the stove on long enough, the metal disc in the center of each burner begins to glow red-hot, i.e., it's like the stove is cooking itself.

Don't think thatHad the gas co. check the gas pressure to the house - twice!- and had a plumber do a test to make sure no water or debris in the gas line that runs from meter to stove. Both said the problem must be with the stove, although that strikes me as awfully coincidental since it only began after the storm. FYI, the power did go out for 6 days, is back now, but problem persists so I don't think electric has anything to do with it.

Any ideas why this is happening?

There was no sign at all that the stove got wet (our house was totally dry except for a bit that came in under one door to the yard.).

I'll be so grateful if you have any ideas about what's going on as Jenn-Air seems clueless when I describe the problem and I've already spent $$$ on the plumber's test and the stove repair people who had no idea either.
