I have black stuff inside my gas dryer, it looks like soot, I can scrub some of it off but it's difficult and it's turning all my clothes dingy

It could be something fell off of pockets from your clothes and then melt and stick into metal. You probably have to use some strong cleaning chemicals to get rid of it.
