Dishwasher will not drain...there are no blockages!

Guys, please help I am nearing the end of my patience. I have had the dishwasher to bits more times than I care to remember now. Here's the issue:
The dishwasher will run through its cycle perfectly but after it has finished there is still water left above the filter. This is the current issue as the original problem was that some water was draining in to the base of the dishwasher and forcing the float switch to constantly stay on. Having taken the left hand panel off the dishwasher I noticed the heat exhanger (labyrinth) and water control unit (housing the float and flow switch) was blocked with gunk. Having cleaned these and refitted them the dishwasher will not drain at the end of the cycle, although I am unsure of whether this was an original issue or not.
I have checked the impeller (winding round with paper), the drain hose and the sump drain hose and all are clear of blockages. As already stated, the heat exchanger and water control unit are clear and so I am fairly confident that there are no blockages in the system.
When I jam the door latch and observe the drain cycle with the door open I can see bubbles coming from the impeller but the water level does not reduce. Also I have run the drain cycle with the sump drain hose removed at the heat exchanger end. Water will come out but it appears to be very low pressure and I am unsure of whether there is sufficient pressure to pump it through the heat exchanger and then out through the drain hose.
My only 2 thoughts now are that there is either a leak in the sump that is responsible for the water draining in to the base and is also causing the impeller to generate bubbles rather than push the water around or that a capacitor, etc has gone in the control board and so the impeller has reversed its direction and so is attempting to pump water in to the sump casing.
Any suggestions/ideas would be greatly appreciated

Hi
lift out the filters inside the d/w and the tiny cover over the drain pump in the left hand side (1 screw ) mind your fingers but check for clear glass fragments in the drain pump & inside the sump. You can spin the pump with your finger this sometimes flips up any bits and bobs in there.
make sure this little cover is replaced well because if it is not fully seated you will loose pump presure.
try again with the drain hose in a bucket not your drain (which may be blocked )
If you hear a huming sound but no water coming out you may need to change the tiny drain pump which is a little tricky ( make sure you pull out plug not just switch it of )
Please note the drain pump is the tiny one at the front left as you look at the d/w not the large one on the right which only does the wash
Good luck, post back
