My dishwasher is not draining. I've done a few things to try and figure it out, but I could use some help as I am a novice at repair work. :)
I removed the drain hose from the disposal and put it in a bucket. It drained slowly, so I checked the entire hose for clogs, but didn't find anything. I put it all back together and tried again. This time it would not drain at all, and I could hear what sounded like uncooked rice rattling around coming from underneath the machine.
I removed the filter assembly in the bottom of the tub and found lots of hard water and detergent buildup in the base, so I cleaned it all out. Next I took off the pump assembly and dismantled it, but there was no clog there. So I took out the entire housing, removed the cover and took out the motor. I saw more of the same buildup inside part of the motor, and I cleaned it all out. I put everything back together, but I have not hooked it up again in case there is something else I need to do.
Could this be caused by the impeller in the pump assembly? Is there a way to check? Could it be the motor? Any help that you could give me would be greatly appreciated!

There is the flapper in the drain pump port which works as a check valve to prevent possible back up. Make sure this flapper is working properly.

Gene,
Thank you for the reply.
I looked at the flapper in the drain pump when I took it apart, and it did appear to be in working order.

Check if there is 120 VAC to the drain pump while the control calls for drain. If there is proper voltage, replace the drain pump. If there is no proper voltage, check the wires. If there is nothing wrong, replace the control board. - The drain pump Part number: AP4019644

The new drain pump arrived today. I was able to install it in about 10 minutes, and that fixed the problem.
Gene, I owe you one! :D

I hope you don't mind me jumoing in on post but since it's exaclty related i thought it would be better thatn starting a new post.
I has the exact symptons that Steve had and replaced the drain pump today. But it still won't drain the water, I hear the drain pumo kick on but it sounds like it is running dry, I hear no water flowing through it. I checked the hose for blockage and it is clear. Any ideas as to what else I could check? Frigidaire Model FDBB2040FC
Thanks,
Alex
