When in a wash mode, it closes so that all the water goes up the pump throat to the wash arms. In a drain mode, it opens so that the water can drain back into the pump faster and be pumped out of the unit.
A symptom of this being no good is poor washing as some of the water is pumped out of the hole this covers instead of up to the wash arms. |
