My wife was recently doing laundry and in between loads the dryer stopped working. Being an electronics technician in the military I started with the most logical players.
I checked out the door switch and the push to start switch with an ohmmeter (both good). I shorted out the wires going to the thermal switch and it still didn't turn on.
We are a military family on a tight budget. Any suggestions on how I can fix this thing myself would be greatly appreciated.

Here is a parts breakdown. Closest I could find is TQ0

Here is the wiring diagram for the VQ0

Try flipping the breaker off/on slowly a couple times, sometimes you can loose half the line without actually tripping the breaker.
If this does nothing, check the voltage at the plug
L1 to L2 should be 240 volts
L1 to Neutral and L2 to Neutral, both should be 120 volts.
If OK
Unplug the unit and check the wires at the terminal strip in the machine to make sure none are loose or burned out
If OK
Check the power at the terminal strip.
[COLOR="Red"]Be careful as 240 volts is lethal !!! [/COLOR]

If power is OK.
Unplug the unit, set the timer to mid scale timed dry and check the BU/BK timer contacts.
Be sure to disconnect at least one side so that you do not read an alternate/parallel circuit path.
If OK
Check the motor windings for continuity.

denman - I cannot thank you enough. I had checked the breaker at the plug and assumed that since I was getting the 120V I'd be getting the 240V. I had also checked the breaker and since it wasn't tripped I had ruled it out. One side was working, the other side was not. I figured that it still would have tripped the breaker.
After a quick run to Menards and $8 later my dryer works again!
