My girlfriend went to run a load of wash in the dryer and the timer made the usual clicking sound it does but when she pressed the start button nothing happened.

I called in a repair man first to find out what the problem was he said it was the motor switch and the whole motor had to be replaced. He said it'd cost $160 for the part and $140 for labor. I decided to buy the motor on this site and replace it myself. I replaced it and no change except now the light won't come on inside.

I went to Youtube.com to get some help on how to take the dryer apart myself and possibly figure out a second problem it might be. I found that BritishJames is an excellent help but he didn't address the problem I am having directly.

Now I've bought myself a multimeter and I've tested to see if the new motor is getting power and everything else. As far as I can tell everything is supposed to be working, but it's not working. The new motor doesn't hum when I press start. The timer still clicks. The light doesn't come on inside when opened. Nothing is blocking the new blower fan. I've invested a good chunk of money into repairing this thing and I'd hate to have to call in the repair guy again to get it running and have the total cost come to what it would have been to just buy myself a new dryer. Please help :(

Not sure where you measured for power across the motor but something does not sound correct (see below)

There are a couple conflicting things here.
If the light was working then either it is not getting power or it coincidentally blew the bulb.
Yet you say that the timer is clicking which indicates that it is getting power.
The light, timer motor and the main motor all get power from the same side of the line ( L1 to Neutral.

I would start by checking the power to the unit.

Try flipping the breaker off/on slowly a couple times, sometimes you can loose half the line without actually tripping the breaker.
If this does nothing, check the voltage at the plug
L1 to L2 should be 240 volts
L1 to Neutral and L2 to Neutral, both should be 120 volts.
If OK
Unplug the unit and check the wires at the terminal strip in the machine to make sure none are loose or burned out
If OK
Check the power at the terminal strip.
Be careful as 240 volts is lethal !!!

If power is OK.
At the top of the list would be the thermal fuse on the blower (Item 6 in Section 3).
Unplug the unit, remove one wire from the fuse and check it with your meter, should be 0 ohms.
A down and dirty check is, unplug the unit, remove the wires from the fuse and short them together. Tape them up so they cannot short to the frame etc. Then plug the unit in and give it a tery.
If this fuse is blown clean/check your vent system as that is the most common cause of blowing this fuse.

If the fuse is OK.
Unplug the unit and check the individual components I the motor start circuit.
Be sure to unplug at least one side of any component you are checking. This prevents you from reading an alternate/parallel circuit path.
I usually put the timer to mid scale timed dry.

Your motor start path is
Neutral , Door Switch (normally open contacts) - Timer Switch 4 - motor's centrifugal switch - motor's Start and Main windings - Thermal Fuse - Push To Start Relay contacts - timer contacts BU to BK - L1

Thank you for your suggestions. Switching the breaker on and off several times slowly did the trick. The light on the inside doesn't come on but I couldn't care less about that.
