I have ordered a replacement clock assembly for my Maytag Gemini double oven. The part came in and it is black. The repair store tells me that Whirlpool tells them they don't make white any more. Is there some procedure for removing the old white overlay from my non-functional unit and putting on the new black one? If so, please give me some instructions.

Does this sound right? Even though you can go out today and buy a white one of these from Sears or Best Buy Whirlpool says they don't make white replacements anymore??

Do you have the serial number(the first 2 numbers at least) ?

I do know some technicians that remove the touch panel and re install it on the new clock.

I did not like the results, several creases, bends and they never really stick well to the new control.

If you wish to do some research yourself, the Maytag part number is 74006216(control w/ wht panel).

Several manufacturers have eliminated colored panels, and reverted to 1 clock/control with black as the color.

The serial number is 12941154AG.

How is it that they still manufacture a white range (you can go to your local Sears, Lowes or Best Buy and get one) yet you can't buy a white replacement part? Obviously they still make the clock assembly in white since they use them in current production.

Maybe this is common in the appliance industry but it just seems odd to me.

This is as frustrating for us, as it is for you.

1) A new unit may have a different control assembly(visually and
functionally).

2) Manufacturers are only required to maintain parts availability for 8 years.
(to control costs, and that includes substitute parts as well).

3) Your machine is just over 8 years old(manufacture date: 4/2002).

4) It is just as common in other industries, as it is in the appliance
industry.

I wish I could help you , but I've done all I can do at this point.
