So my freezer was freezing, but my fridge was hovering around 58-62 F. I took apart the back of the freezer to find that the evaporator fan wasn't working, so I ordered and installed a new one. The only difference this time is that I didn't put the icemaker back in due to the fact that there is no water line anyway. Now the freezer is in the forties, and the fridge goes from about 52-60. The compressor is warm, running, and not making any wierd sounds... What could the problem be?

Here is your wiring diagram http://www.servicematters.com/docs/wiring/Wiring%20Sheet%20-%202217549.pdfI am assuming that the evaporator fan now runs. Also that the evaporator coils were not iced/frosted over when the fan was replaced. If the compressor is running continuously then unit is trying to get to set point. Give it at least a day to get down to the correct temperature. Check the door seals. If the door seals are OK, remove the evaporator coil cover. If the coils are iced/heavily frosted over you have a defrost problem. If the coils only have frost in one area or it is blotchy, odds are that you are low on freon. If there is no frost on the coils then you may be outof freon or have a sealed system blockage. If either of the above you will need a pro to repair the unit and it will not be cheap. You may be better off putting the dollars toward a new unit. |

Yes the evaporator fan is now working. When I took off the back, the evap coils were frosted over like they should be and the freezer was working. Now both the freezer and the fridge dont work but the fan does. The coils are not fosted because the freezer isnt below freezing temp...

This unit seems to be messing with you.
If the evaporator fan is running the compressor should be running as they are wired in parallel.
Unless I have the wrong wiring diagram.
Something very weird is happening since it sounds like the compressor was OK (even frost layer on the coils) before the fan was replaced.
Check that you are getting voltage and it is 120 volts to the compressor. |
