My 15 year old Amana Refrigerator is freezing in the refrigerator compartment. Have turned temp control to lowest setting. Not sure if it is running all the time. Seems that when I am near it is running.

Any hints for fixing appreciated! Would like to fix myself (well...have hubby do it!) if doable.

Thank you!

For starters I would check the damper make sure it's closing, by your description it's probably open, if it's not closing properly then you will need either part AP4247998 or AP71843 (either one should work, but not is stock so might take a while to get. Hope that helps you some. Depending on where you live you might find one locally if you need it, part number R0161072.
Hope that helps

Thanks for your help! If you know anything else based on fact that fridge is shutting off, please let me know.

We are having similar problems. Our 15-year old Amana seems to be running all the time. It is a frostless freezer yet there is frost accumulating on the back of the freezer (freezer is on top). The refrigerator is not refrigerating. We've emptied it out and are just using the freezer but it is running all the time. We've cleaned underneath and behind the appliance and defrosted. There is not change. Might it need freon?

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

Part 5 diagram 5 is your defrost timer.
