My Kenmore washer keeps filling with water and never shuts off. Could this be the water level switch went bad. Thank You.

That's what it sounds like! Sometimes water gets in the tube or the tube gets a crack or hole and it will do that as well.

I put a load in to soak last night and forgot to run the wash cycle. This morning when I set it for a wash cycle, it started filling again, but it was already full! Is there a float that indicates how full the washer is? If it is a timer, I would think after I drained 15 gallons out and set the water level at the lowest, it would have stopped when it reached the minimum level and started aggitating.

Do I need a new part? Meanwhile, what can I do to finish this load?

I'm not happy!!! :( This is the borrowed machine we got to replace the HE3t that died a few weeks back. Do I really need to buy a new washer?

I'm sorry, I thought I put the model number in! Can't do much without it! It's a Kenmore 80 series 110.24812200.

My HE3T had the main bearing go out and the glider is broken too. I wrote about that in another post. My owner's manual suggested using HE detergent and I forgot how much regular detergent was recommended and gradually increased it, but we only got the "suds" routine a couple of times. So, my old machine is only good for parts now.

The water level is controlled by a pressure switch located in the control console. There is a clear plastic tube which runs from the pressure switch down to the bottom of the tub. As the water rise in the tube it creates air pressure and it is this pressure witch trips the switch telling the machine that it has the proper water level.

So your problem is probably in either the switch or the tube.

Often the tube can develop cracks and the trapped air leaks out OR a piece of crud can block the entrance to the tube OR it just gets brittle and loose the seal at the switch.

Check the tube for cracks etc.
Remove the tube and blow into it to make sure it is clear
If you have enough slack cut half an inch off the end and reinstall it on the switch.

The diaphragm in the switch can also develop leaks or the switch itself mess up.

Get a piece of tubing with the same inside diameter attach it to the switch and blow into it, you should be able to hear the switch trip. Better yet measure it with a multimeter.

Thank you for your help! We figured that it was probably something stuck, since the previous load had been diapers. So he blew it out and it is working just fine now! I can get back to my laundry now...
