My GE refrigerator chute will not open. When I try to get ice, I can hear the ice section turning to distribte ice, but the chute will not flip open to release the ice. It used to flip open and then when the little light would go out, it would close (thus sealing it so no warm air would enter). Now that is broken and I get alot of ice building up. I believe I need a warming kit, but I am not sure. HELP HELP. Does anyone have any suggestions.

There is a solenoid inside the dispenser housing that operates the flap. On these models there was a moisture problem. The repair to the moisture problem was to replace the doors (if your refrigerator has had the doors replaced this may not be the problem). This is only true if the serial number start with AA2-DZ2. With the faulty doors the dispenser housing will have all kinds of moisture build up and the moisture will cause the solenoid to rust up. If this is the case replacing the solenoid will put it back to work but it will happen again. Only I cannot tell you how long it will take (6 months, year, 5 years) for it to rust agian. Since you know that it will happen again it may be best to try to repair the old solenoid by sanding down the plunger. It may work and it may not depending on how rusted it is.
