I recently ordered a replacement motor(AP3776020 (2188869) - Motor) for my whirlpool ice dispensor motor and am trying to remove the shaft from the old motor. it looks to be rusted and won't budge from the shaft. Ive sprayed the shaft where it slides into the motor with wd-40 and a 7/11 penetrating oil, but it is stuck. I hit it with a rubber mallet trying not to damage the freezer door in the process with no luck. Since the motor and shaft are stuck together, i can't remove it from the door because it is too long to slide out to put it in a vice. Any help would be greatly appreciated. THANKS

In such situation I would cut the shaft off and replace it together with the motor. - The part number for the shaft is AP3135622 Here are the break down diagrams for the Whirlpool refrigerator Model GD5SHAXKB00Gene.

I really didnt have any room to cut the shaft since it was still in the door. I finally had to break the plastic housing away from the motor to expose the drive gear. I was then able to tap the gear from the shaft and remove the shaft from the freezer door. The shaft still had the hex shape coupling on it. I heated it up and then was able to remove it from the shaft. I just sanded the rust off and greased the end of the shaft and reused in new motor. It's back together and dispensing ice like it should. Thanks for the reply!

I'm glad you were able to fix it.
