I have GE microwave (Model # JES831WB002, about 6-7 years old) which was working fine until yesterday. All of a sudden it stopped heating, but all of the other functions on the key pad, lcd screen, turntable, internal light seem to be working fine. I tried opening the screws behind but was unsuccessful since it has two screws which require a special screw driver.

Any suggestions as to what the problem may be - magentron, diode, fuse or something else. Also how can I open it up myself and try diagnosing the issue as it cost $80+parts and labor to have a GE rep come by to get it checked/fixed. In that price, I might as well buy a new microwave. But I want to be certain that this one I have cant be fixed for cheaper before I dispose it off to get a new one.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Techi_Dude, mine stopped working yesterday and am considering a service call though I wish to try on my own first. Model #JVM1850WH02 supposedly manufactured in Dec '04 but installed in '06. Everything else works but no heat. Please share what you have learned should it not be posted. Thx!
