For the last year (since the refrig was moved) it has started leaking water about once a month. When I notice water on the floor in front of it, I open the freezer and see that there is ice covering the bottom of the freezer compartment. Otherwise it is working fine, the freezer area stays about 0 and the refrig area about 37 deg F.

This unit does not have an ice maker. So no water is connected to the refrig.

Anyone have any ideas?

TIA

We had water leaking into the freezer compartment of our side-by-side frig and collecting as ice on the bottom of the compartment, and occasionally leaking onto the floor outside. We called in a repair service and they fixed it in about 10 minutes. They said that what happens is the freezer's internal drain (leading to the pan underneath the frig), located behind removable panels on the inside back of the freezer compartment, becomes clogged with mildew, which then freezes, completely closing off the drain and causing water to leak inside the freezer compartment. They used a hot air blower (like an industrial-strength hair dryer) and brush to unfreeze and clean off the drain opening and it is now working fine. Hope this helps.

Paul,

Yes that is what I thought the problem was, and what it was. The problem for me was this frig. has the bottom drawer freezer and I didn't know where the drain tube was. I ended up having to call the repair man. He had to disassemble the freezer, pull the door, remove the freezer basket, all the hardware for the baskets and drawer slides before he could get to the back panel. Then he had to remove that, and then disassemble some of the covers that covered the trip tube. Ended up taking him a little over an hour to get to the drip tube and getting it cleaned out!

I was really surprised that the job was so much work!
