The washer started making grinding noises about a week ago. After opening the cabinet, did not find any carbon from the belt or any oil leaks. All three pulleys at the bottom of the machine seem to be moving okay. Is it the drain pump? Do I need to replace it? Please help!!! Thank you.

If the sound is coming from the transmission area I am thinking that something is hung up in the brake assembly, and getting into it requires special tools, and some repair experience and there is some risk of injury, so unless you want to get into it, I would let it go until the machine stops working and then replace it.

Here is a service manual if you want to do some more diagnosis or attempt an incursion into the brake assembly.

PAV 3240 is not listed. Would the manual still apply? Thank you.

Yes, Manufacturers use a variety of model numbers and even though a service manual will cover them, they do not always list all the model numbers covered.

You should see that the parts and diagrams are almost exactly like your model.
