I purchased a fan motor to replace the one in my whirlpool fridge model # ED5SHAXML10. The motor number I received is 2315549. The old motor rattles and bangs and sometimes sticks completely and needs me to push the fan blades to get it running again. When I received the motor and compared it to the one in the fridge, it clearly will not fit. The electrical connection is not the same and the mounting holes are not in the same places on the two motors. The motor is not the same shape as the old one, either.
I called the 877 number and the woman I spoke with double checked my part number and said this is the only motor listed for this refrigerator. I can splice the wires, but need advice on how to mount this motor.

The motors look the same to me. The motor ends fit into rubber end bells and they get supported by the metal brackets. Sometimes, the rubber ends get soft and no longer support the motor and it will rattle and shake. Usually, I use rubber gromets to firm up the mounts on these. In your case, I would either order new rubber mounts, or locate some rubber washers to firm it up.

I completely agree that the motor in my hand looks like the one on the diagram on your site, but it doesn't look anything like the one on my fridge. The electrical connector is different and the old motor has three holes with screws that attach it to the bracket. The new motor has one hole, as far as I can tell. I've rechecked the model number of my fridge several times. I just assumed the diagrams were wrong when I ordered the part. I guess I'll try to make a new bracket that will fit this new motor.
The part number on the old motor is 2188727, if that helps. I found the motor that replaces that one on other sites with diagrams that match my fridge, but they are over 100$.
I cleaned the old motor and squirted a little bit of wd40 in it and it's working for the time being.

The motor with the part number 2315549 (from your first post) is the evaporator fan motor. So which motor are you talking about? Gene.

You are right Gene. Either he got confused and asked for an evaporator motor, or they shipped the wrong one.
