Our Whirlpool dishwasher is 2 yrs old and it stopped running and the adaptive wash light started flashing. We were told it was a bad electronic control board so we ordered part WPL W10084141 and installed it just like the old one was installed. It still will not run and it went to saying 2 on the front time remaining circle. Various lights will light up when pushed occassionally. We have taken the part out and put it back in various times but nothing works. Is there some kind of sequence that has to be followed to get it going or is something else wrong. Whirlpool wasn't any help.

You probably have a malfunction in your heating circuit, open element , thermostat or wire.Based on your opening statement."it stopped running and the adaptive wash light was flashing".

With that circuit open, the unit would attempt to go directly to a drain cycle(2 minutes) 2 in the display, count down and shut off.

when you remove the lower kick plate you will have the wiring diagram and technical information sheetattached to the back side of it. You will be able to access the element and thermostat connections and test them for closed circuits with a meter.

You will have access to various test modes and component operation and directions to reset the control board.
P S Dont forget to shut off power to the dishwasher before you start checking circuits and comonents.

Just to add my 2 cents...

If the control senses a problem with the heating circuit, it will have the "clean" LED blinking 7 times repeatedly and disable the Start/Resume key.

If LED above key(s) is flashing rapidly, that means a shorted circuit(s) in keypad or in control input lines that read the keys.

According to the problem description you posted, it can be a bad keypad or a bad control board.

There is a simple test which can help you to figure out exactly which part is bad:

Open console and disconnect the keypad ribbon connection from the control (at P1). Make sure all other connections are made.

Put console back together. Do not close the dishwasher door.

Plug in dishwasher or reconnect power.

Wait 5 seconds.
Close dishwasher door.
Monitor the control’s response:

If the control is OK (no longer sees shorts with the keypad unplugged), it will respond by turning on a Drain Motor for 2 minutes. Replace the keypad if the control responds OK.

If the control is not OK (still sees shorts with the keypad unplugged), then the drain motor will NOT respond and will remain off. If no response, replace the control.

Assuming you already replaced the control, most likely the problem is a bad keypad. It comes as a part of the control panel. If you need the correct part number, post the color of the control panel.

Here is the Tech sheet.
