My neighbors have just bought a new dryer, I could tell immediately that they had, since their dryer vent now emits a loud high pitch whir sound. When I asked about it, my neighbor just said "I hear it too, maybe it's because it vents directly out" and that he couldn't see anything wrong and then went on his merry way. It wouldn't bother me, except that I can hear the thing inside my house, and I don't really want to know their laundry habits that well, not to mention I'd prefer peace and quiet.
Any suggestions on what can be done to decrease the noise from a loud dryer vent? I plan on asking him if he minds if I repair it for him, but I need some ideas on what might fix it...
My only thoughts have been that maybe a bend in the vent would baffle the noise some, or that there is a filter of some kind I can put on it... I'll do all the work myself to fix his vent, I just don't want to hear it anymore

If he just bought it new then he has to have the installation instructions. I would recommend to ask for these instructions and read the venting part of it.
If he does not have it, you can find it on-line by the model number of the dryer.
