Fresh food is freezing - temp continues to get colder

This is a GE Profile Artica side-by-side fridge. The freezing appears to be holding a steady temp, but the fresh food side keeps getting colder and colder and the temp setting keeps going down.

Several questions:

1) I have read that it is likely that the sensor failed in the fridge. Is that correct?

2) for this particular fridge, the parts diagram and corresponding part on appliancepartspros should a sensor with wires attached. When I look in my fridge at this part, sensor is attached to wires and then to a blue connector. Exactly what parts do I need to replace the sensor...and what is the replacement procedure?

Here is the sensor part (notice there is no connector).
Part Number: AP3185407
Made by GE

Thanks a million

You splice in the new thermisters, there should be two fresh food thermisters. You use inline splices availble at Radio Shack.
If you have a meter you can check their value, once I measure them, I will add their values.
Before doing that, check your damper door in the fridg section, might be jamed open.
If it is ok, you can allways remove the connector to it,and temporarily jam it half way open till you get parts.

Thanks for the reply. Just to be clear, when the digital temp is set at 37 for the fresh food side, the digital temp readout keeps going down and down. Regardless of what temp we set it (48, etc), the compressor keeps running. Wouldn't that rule out the damper door?

I posted a picture of the sensor and what appears to be a blue connector. Are you saying that this is not a connector and that I need to splice in the new sensor before the blue plug?

Yes, just clip the wires before the blue plug. If you have a meter, the thermisters should be around 12 kohm at 35 degrees.
It does appear that your encoder (control module) is bad. If you unplug it, your fridg control should default to the factory values of about 10 degrees freezer and 35 refrigerator, this is what a pro. has stated, never tried it though. Your motherboard controls all the functions, the encoder just encodes and diplays temperatures.
