Hi guys, I'm a little weery of changing the evaporator fan in this fridge. I don't know if there is anything that controls the fan I should be testing. I'm fairly sure it is the fan. But don't want to be replacing a bunch of parts chasing the true problem. Can you help?

Ice on back wall of freezer compartment ? The evaporator fan is controlled through the temperature control, and defrost bi metal(thermostat). Since your temps seem to be fine, I doubt if you need a control. However,I would expect you to have ice frost on the back wall of the freezer as well. You should also check for a loose connection in the harness, ice can get inside of the connector and will separate the connection and the fan can stop running. If thats the case, or if your fan is defective , you may want to apply a coat of vaseline or some other water proofing agent to eliminate that possibility. The hardest part of the repair is accessing the fan, the rest is reasonably easy, and it sounds like you have it under control.

Ok here is the low down. I was desparite for a fridge as the one in my place was stolen while I was away. A friend had one they replaced because they wanted to keep up with the Jones's and put this one on the back porch a couple of years ago. They quit using it all together a year ago. When I got it home I plugged it in and no fan. I had to pull the panells in the freezer because of the mold {nasty!!} so access is easy. I do get frost on the back wall but think that it is because of the fan not working. I honestly don't know how to check it. My gut says replace but like I said I don't know if there is some thing else in line I should check. I have to fix it.I don't have the money for even a used one. I appreciate all the help guys, I realy do. {:

Sometimes in storage the fan motor sticks or it gets rusted. If the motor shaft will not turn, pull the motor out and free it up with WD-40 and pliers. You must use non-detergent oil to lube this.
