I ordered part # 5303281153 (Rear Drum Bearing Kit), in order to fix the unbearable squeal eminating from my dryer.

I had to have another kit shipped to be because the plate that attaches to the back of the dryer was warped in the first kit I got.

Anyway, the new kit came, the dryer is apart, the cradle has been replaced, etc. However, I cannot screw the new, unwarped plate onto the back of the drum because the screw holes in the plate are not machined, and therefore have no threads for the screws to catch! I cannot force the screw through the holes to create threads because the darn thing is metal, not wood.

My dryer is in pieces all over the pantry, and I would very much like to know how one is supposed to get the plate securely attached to the drum when the part was designed sans the necessary machined threads (without having to go find and pay someone to machine threads into the holes for me - the part should come useable and ready to rock!)...?
Please help!

Sir.
I have checked and varified the contents of part number AP2142648 bearing kit (5303281153). The kit should contain bearing , shaft.lube, bracket and screws.I presume all the parts were supplied in the kit you recieved and are attempting to install.

As to, no threads in the plate, This is normal , Most sheet metal and metal plates are not tapped or pre threaded for production purposes.

Replacement parts are supplied with self tapping machine screws, that cut threads into the plate as you screw them in, it may take some extra force or pressure until the initial threads are cut in the plate, but the screw will thread the plate, tighten and secure the plate to the intended component.

In your particular case, the 4 short screws (in the kit) are self tapping / locking machine screws are are used to mount the bearing plate to the drum assembly.

I hope, my explanation and information is of some help to you.

Your part is "useable and ready to rock"
