my kenmore has a green flashing light on clean, but when restarting I only get a flashing red light on the start button all other buttons seem to be working properly. the door seems to be working properly.

Unfortunately, you did not supply a proper model and serial number for your dishwasher. I cannot verify my theories. Base on your problem description, I would have to think you most likely have a failure in your water heating circuit(heater element, thermostats,and possibly control board or wiring). You will need to use a multi meter to check resistances on those components and wires, and most likely need to reset the control after the repairs are made. The technical data sheet and schematic are usually attached to the back side of the kick plate on the front bottom panel nearest the floor. I hope this has been some assistance to you.
