I'm having a problem w/ our washer overflowing and I think it might be due to a buildup of pink crap in the air dome. Here's a cell phone picture of the buildup.. http://www.flickr.com/photos/45169600@N05/4792567255/Anyone have any advise on how to fix it or clean it out?? I saw a recommendation of using a thin wire or pipe cleaner and trying to break the stuff up. I planning on trying that this evening but wanted to see if I should get other supplies, etc before going home. Thanks!

My air dome was clogged into the but and had liquid retained within it with the tub empty. It is very important that liquids drain from the air dome when the tub is empty. The automatic water sensor level of my HydroWave GE washer did not work properly. It also prevented the motor from going into the spin cycle. My air dome was so dirty and clogged that it had a constant level of liquid in it so it was surely clogged at the exit into the tub.
I used a couple of things to try and clean the air dome - air compressor, pipe cleaner, and a syringe with vinegar. I first used an air compressor with about 20psi to blow out the liquid and undo the clogged exit. It is rather hard but I used a pipe cleaner as well and may have gotten half of its length (4-5 inches) down the top tube inlet. I then also used an old syringe to inject 5ml of white distilled vinegar directly into the air dome about 7 times. Bleach might work even better.
I really could not get it cleaned very well. However, I now think the air dome is operating properly - not almost filed with any liquid and is draining out fully into the tub when the water level goes below it. My Hydrowave GE washer now seems to automatically fill properly and the basket now spins during the drain cycle with the air dome unclogged.
