Good day,

Our GE washer's agitaor stopped working and I replaced the agitator coupling after reading this link: GE Washer Not Agitating Repair Guide

The washer worked properly (except for the agitator) prior to replacing the agitator coupling.

Now the the washer does not spin, and agitates during the spin cycle.

Model: WKSR2100T2AA
Serial: RM1048980

Thanks in advance for your attention.

Don't know why this happened but sounds like your transmission/brake assembly (the brakes are in the transmission housing on this model) has failed.

sidfink43, thank you for taking the time to respond.

How can I verify/check if the transmission/brake assembly has failed?

Any guesstimate on much it would cost for a professional technician to repair this? Or if its worth repairing?

There is no good way to check this without pulling out the transmission, and given the age of your machine the cost of the repair in my opinion is not worth it.

New, basic no frills top loaders are very aggressively priced today, at least in our area and I stongly suggest going that route. A basic machine will do great job for you, last a long time and be much more economical. Unless you want a shorter life for the new machine, and a lot of potential problems avoid a front loader or any top loader with microprocessor controls.

I have been searching for a simple washer for month and a half. I cant seem to find any with consistent good reviews.

I actually selected a Whirlpool WTW5100VQ because it had a simple feature set like our old GE, and because it was Whirpool without the 4 temp modulator (of which I read poor things).

Stopped working in mid cycle of its very first wash.

Can anyone please recommend a simple reliable top loader, like sidfink43 described?

Please?

This is very strange because this washer is one of which sidfink43 described and it should be good.

Can you be more specific on what happened?

Gene.

Hello Gene,

Sorry for not being clear.

After Lowes set up the machine, our first wash was a small load using the Casual cycle. As it was nearing the Rinse, there were six to eight continuous "knocks" and the machine stopped; dead. I pushed the knob in and pulled it out again - nothing happened. I pushed/pulled the knob at different points around the dial - no response; no hums, nothing at all. Lowes picked it up the next day.

Now we don't even have the old washer, which at least half worked.

The only "con" review I have read about this model was that it was loud. Which it was, for the 20 minutes or so that it worked.

I don't know if it was bad luck or not, but I am reluctant to try that model again. Unless I get a few positive responses about that model.

Sorry to hear it. This washer should be good because of a simple and prove to be reliable design. The problem is very poor quality on everything made today. You can not rely on even very expensive appliances.

You said about your bad luck and I agree with you. Today buying anything, especially appliances, is like a gambling.

Lowe's is good place to buy appliances because of their good return policy. I would give them one more try. If you paid for this washer about $300 or less, then it might be a good idea to buy an extended (up to 5 years) warranty for a reasonable price. If the washer would break after 5 years, you would not feel sorry to through it away and just buy another one for such money.

Gene.
