bought this fridge used, so I don't know how old, and it was laid on it's side briefly to clean underneath. We brought it in the house and plugged it in. The coils started frosting up but the fan blade is not turning... after about 3 hours no change, so we unplugged it. Someone said if it was laid on side it has to rest for 24 hours or it will be wrecked? Someone else said that's not true and you can run it for the 24 hours?? We will wait 24 hours and try again, but we don't thing the fan blade is going to turn (spins freely - but maybe motor or something else is bad?).
Any ideas appreciated.

You are suppose to set it up awhile after laying it down to let all the gases settle back to normal but laying it down should have no effect on the fan blade turning. You say it spins freely but can you hear or feel the motor humming if not check all connections to the motor. You may just need a new one don't to costly of a repair

Below the front door remove the kick panel and turn defrost timer till the compressor stops, should defrost, if not, replace the defrost heater and defrost thermostat located behind the freezer back panel. Thermostat AP2071242.
For your information, if the fridg is horizontal for a period of time, the compressor oil will travel up the capillary tube. So it must be upright for a few hours to let the oil return to the compressor. If not, the oil will stay in the capillary tube and clog it up.

left the fridge off for about 20 hours, turned on and the freezer compartment is getting a little ice on the bottom and I hear a running noise... but the fan blade has still not turned...
do I just replace the motor or is there something else to check other than the motor?

I just plugged it in today - is there a reason to defrost? That makes the fan blade not spin? It moves freely - but doesn't seem to be coming on.
I read some thread that talked about a mother board in addition to motor that could be reason fans aren't blowing?? is there something that is suposed to kick the motor on and off?

There is NO motherboard in this refrigerator. Your freezer is too warm for the evaporator fan to get current from the defrost thermostat. Your freezer must get down below around 25 degrees before the fan will work.
You probably have serious refrigeration problems if the freezer will not get cold enough. Probably oil stuck in the capillary tube.

so the fridge has been on for about 5 hours - I haven't noticed the fan on yet...
do I replace the evaporator fan motor and see if that works? or find out if it's down to 25 degrees?
or
I have an ice cube tray in there and it's starting to get icey on top of the water in the trays, so maybe it's just not cold enough yet?
I want to troubleshoot anything possible before I take it back (7 day return for exchange policy from used store)
should I wait until tomorrow and see if the fan starts working &/or investigate getting it working if it's not...
