Which uses less electricity, a dehumidifier or a 110 window air with a dry cycle? -- I have a dehumidifer running in my unfinished basement. It makes my basement drier, but lots hotter as it pumps all its exhaust back into the open space. I get about 5 gallons of water in 12 hours. I was wondering about buying a 110 window unit to fit in the basement window and running it on the dry cycle. Will the a/c work as good to dry it outthe basement? Will the window a/c use more electricity than the dehumidifier?

Both draw the same amount of power. The dehumidifier will do a better job of removing moisture from the room. If you want the temperature to go down more, I would use both A/C and dehumidifier.
