Replaced compressor a few weeks back, then the cond fan went out and now the I'm getting erratic freezer temperatures. The box cools down to 0 degrees but when it goes into defrost the temp rises above freezing. I replaced the defrost term stat and checked to make sure it is killing the def heater, it is. No amps on heater when t-stat opens. I thought that maybe it was because the unit was empty so this morning I placed several gallon jugs of water in it to see if this makes a difference. I'm about ready to trash this thing and its only 6-7 years old. Any suggestions would be appreciated??

Is your evaporator fan running in defrost.

THAT is your problem, never saw such a problem before. The fan will rapidly heat the freezer if running in defrost.

When I changed the def term switch out I wired it to stay on. Should have known. I used a switch that I had and it seems to stay off (open) for a long time. Are they pretty universal? or do you recommend I get the one for this unit? I left it running and will check it again tomorrow. Thanks again for the help!! rt

The defrost thermostat should have a trip out temperature near the old one, usually around 50 degrees.

For some reason, you have a poor wiring connection to the evaporator fan motor. Look over all your wiring connections.

Got home this afternoon and it was at minus 2.7 degrees (-2.7). I've placed a thermometer thru the wire opening in the back and can monitor the temp from there. This will be much better then opening the door in my shop thats 90 degrees. I'll double check the wiring on the evap fan, watch it thru a defrost cycle one more time and go from there. Thanks for all your help on this. rt
