Have a maytag mfd2560hes refrigerator, a couple of years old. Stopped cooling and after eliminating all other possibilities, got it down to either the compressor or the start-up relay/overload capacitor assembley. Borrowed a "3-in-1" kit from a friend, installed it, and the refrigerator started running normally and cooling again. At this point I assumed the compressor was ok, and ordered a replacement relay assy. Got the new part, put it on, but now the refrigerator short cycles again and the compressor won't kick in. I checked the replacement part numbers and it is an appropriate replacement for my unit. I don't understand why it doesn't work with the new relay but it will with the 3 in 1. I would also like to know if it is safe to just wire a 3-in-1 kit in permanently since that seems to make it work. Any advice or direction would be appreciated. Thanks.

If it was my fridge I'd leave the 3n1 combo permanently installed and say a prayer... I've used the 3n1 combo many times with success but there's some pros here that don't recommend using them on fridges with electronic controls... I've gotten in the habit of heeding that advice and just use the solid state relay (AP3540667) on units with electronics... I live out in the boonies and don't have the luxury of zipping down to the parts store for original replacement parts... cheers, kooler
