Hi this is freezerboy.My GE side by side defrost system does not seem to come on.The freezer runs good but the refrigerator stays arround 55-60 degrees and ice builds up on the evaporator coils.I disconnected the electrical power and gently defrosted the evaporator coils with a heat gun. I replaced the single element heater with the upgraded dual element with similar results and later replaced the thermostat with the same result. I did not see a defrost timer so I assumed that it was controlled from the mother board which I also replaced.The rerigerator seems to be working the same. i.e THe freezer cooling good, ice building up on the evaporator coils and the heater not coming. I need help fast.Ran out of options

Unplug refrigerator, remove the cover of the motherboard and locate the 3 pin power connector on the bottom. Notice which pins are labled line and defr.
Remove the connector and place a wire jumper between those pins, then plug in fridg.
Defrost should now work, if not, you have misswired something in the freezer defrost wiring, just check.

Attention Richappy:If I jump the defrost and line terminals would'nt that turn the defrost on permanently. Should'nt it come on for a timed interval. I don't think any miswiring occured.There is continuity through the heater element from the plug in at the evaporator fan plug.All other features in the refrigerator seem to work.
If I do jump the line and defrost terminals,is it better to solder a jumper on the back of the mother board between those two points.

This is a TEMPORARY jumper to test the defrost circuit.

Hi this is Freezerboy:Attention Richappy or anyone who can help;
I jumped the defrost and line terminals on the mother board and the heater circuit did work.Therefore the problem must be between the power cord input and the mother board.Is there some sort of timer or capacitor between those two points. Are there any other suggestions.

If you replaced the motherboard in the back, the only thing left to change is the evaporator thermister, a white, long plastic thing clipped to the evaporator.

Attention Richappy: The thermistor is attached to the evaporator fan and the evaporator fan was replaced a few months ago.The evaporator fan does work. Unless the thermistor got damaged since then.Could the thermistor get damaged from holding a heat gun too close during defrost.Could I buy the thermistor separate and crimp it to the evaporator fan wire.
