My cast iron griddle top is a discontinued item. I need to clean it. I used olive oil on it and that was a huge mistake. I have hard black crust on it when you try to griddle, pieces of the black comes off and is stuck to the food. I have tried scouring pads, engine cleaner, putty knife, still will not come off. Can I put it in the oven when I clean the oven? or do you have another suggestion

Take some powder dishwasher soap and mix it fairly strong with hot water, so it is sort of milky and then soak the grill in this overnight.

Cannot guarantee that it will work but it does work for cleaning burned on food from pots.

If this does nothing then I would try oven cleaner, just be sure to rinse it well after using the cleaner.

Can I put it in the oven when I clean the oven?
I have never tried this perhaps someone will jump in who has.
I would only do it as a last resort.
