I have an estate dryer and the push on button starts the dryer but once you release it the dryer stops. The same principle as a car battery and alternator. Would the timer be bad, or is there a fuse or???:rolleyes:

sounds like the button. You could bypass the button just to see if it stays on

you will have to access the panel that holds the button and you should see teo wires attached to the button.....unless it is a new model that has a control board and micro switches. This is different.
This was just a suggestion.. If the dryer runs as should with button depressed...it sounds like it is the problem

It is a momentary switch and should only close when pushed. You will notice a centrifugal switch by the motor, it switches over once the motor gets close to operating speed. It has two purposes. 1. It removes the motor's start winding from the circuit as leaving this on will overheat the motor. 2. It provides a circuit path to keep the motor running once the push to start is released (wired in parallel) Could be that the switch is toast, or that the motor is jammed with lint so that the switch is not being activated. There is a mechanical linkage in the motor that activates the switches. Try cleaning the motor. Unfortunately if the activating mechanism or the switch itself is shot you have to replace the motor. |
