I just replaced the switch on the lid with no trouble but now the washer will not come on (and yes I have plugged it in to two different outlets with no luck :p ). Before replacing the switch, I was running the washer with the broken switch but the last time it filled up with water but would not start wash cycle. I moved the switch around to try to get the cycle to start but it popped and sparked - did I short out something or completely ruin the washer?

When you say you moved the switch I assume you mean the timer, which sounds like it has shorted out.

Try replacing the timer and see if that does not fix your problem. When you do so check the wiring into the timer, as what you have described is not usual and you may have a problem with the wiring.

You say that it sparked when you moved the switch around. If you moved the broken lid switch you may have caused the circuit breaker to pop. Check the circuit breaker for that outlet and/or the ground fault reset.
