Ice maker is making thin and very little ice. Any ideas

Sounds like the problem is a clogged water valve. You can find the disassembly instructions in the Service manual.

Does that generally mean it has to be replaced or can it be removed and cleaned out?

I would replace it, but you can try to clean it first.
