I have ordered a timer for magtag dryer model DE712, approx. 25 years old.
Has anyone had any experience installing a timer.
I am told it is consumer friendly. Is this correct?
How many wires have to be disconnected and connected?

It is not very difficult task. Remove the timer knob center piece and unscrew the nut holding the knob. Be prepared for the popping out spring when you pull out the knob. Remove the screws on top of the control panel and pull the control panel toward yourself. Remove the two screws holding the timer and pull it out. Secure the new timer in place. Note the marks on the old and the new timers terminals. Remove the wire from the old timer (one wire at a time) and connect it to the new timer. Assemble the control panel and the timer knob.
