I have a Whirlpool LE5720XSWO. The dryer started taking longer and longer to dry a load, then finally quit heating altogether.

I replaced the heating element yesterday, turned the dryer on and it heated up, no problem. Today I dried a load of clothes, and at the end of drying, the dryer was incredibly hot and the clothes were too hot to touch.

I have read that the problem is probably the thermostat, but when looking at your parts list, #6 on the diagram is listed as the Cycling Thermostat; #7 and #15 are listed as the Thermal Cut-off and High Limit Thermostat. In this scenario, which thermostat most likely needs to be replaced, the Cycling Thermostat or the High Limit Thermostat? If I have to replace both, can I just order Item #6 and Item #15, the t-stats only, and skip Item #7, the Thermal Cut-off?

Please advise, thanks so much!

The first thing I would do is clean the vent all the way to the outlet and make sure the lint chute (#1 on the diagram) is clean and the blower is working properly. Usually all dryers overheating due to obstructed air flow.

Thanks, Gene! The vent is clear, this was done at the time the element was replaced. That is why I'm concerned...I don't want to order the Thermal Cut-off Kit if all I need is the High-Temp or Cycling T-Stat.

FYI, the dryer does progress through a timed cycle and cut-off on its own, and it does still get hot, so the Thermal Cut-off and/or Fuse doesn't appear to be blown.

Did you check the lint chute and the blower wheel?
