The replacement motor for my dryer is GE Universal Dryer Motor Kit WE17X10010. It comes with a wiring diagram which shows the "old" black, blue and orange wires going on the "new" motor at terminals 3, 5 and 4 respectfully. The first problem is new terminal 3 is a short little stub not meant to take a wire. The second problem is my dryer has 5 wires, the above mentioned 3 plus a red and yellow wire. So, what terminals are my 5 wires suppose to go on the new motor? When I put them on the terminals suggested on the wiring diagram, and try alternatives for the red and yellow wire, nothing will start. When I put them on the numbered terminals they came off of, the switch on top of the dryer doesn't work, the motor starts as soon as you set the dryer timer, and there is no heat. No technicians locally, and GE is Tennessee can't answer this question. Thanks.

Boy, that sound's frustrating, sorry you are having trouble.

I have not had experience with your problem, and so my only advice is to get back with the folks that sold it to you and see if they can help you out. Hopefully they have technical support which can give you guidance, or at least confirm that your new motor is correct for your machine.

If you cannot get satisfaction I think you should try to get the same motor as your existing one, and that should be easy to wire up and install.

Good luck, post again if you are unable to rectify this and we'll see what we can come up with.

Thanks sidfink43. The parts house has no technical support (the Owner is on summer vacation). I have confirmed that this is the correct replacement motor, and I looked into getting exactly the same motor but that's not made anymore. Recently I went ahead and connected the black wire to the short stub terminal and now I have heat, but the switch on top of the dryer still doesn't work. I have to open and close the door to act as an on-off switch. Would be interested if anyone has a solution for making this work correctly. Thanks.

Let's hope someone else can give you clearer directions.

In the meantime be very careful operating your dryer this way.

Thanks for updating us, and good luck.

Thanks again sidfink43, I finally got it working. The problem was I was 1 position off on my diagram for which color wire went to which numbered terminal. The correct positioning is black-1, red-2, yellow-4, blue-5, brown-6. When you hook the 5 wires up to the terminal block this way it works. I managed to throw my house circuit breaker for the dryer in the process and that took an hour to fix since the electrician had the two 30 amp breakers bracketed together and they wouldn't reset without removing the bracket. Thanks for your help and I hope this helps somebody else.

Ok, Glad you got it working.

One problem with GE is that they do not make their technical bulletins available, unlike Maytag who if they had done this would have a nice tech bulletin for all of us to follow and life is a lot easier. GE just does not want us to have the info.

Thanks for keeping us updated, I'm sure this was helpful to a lot of folks.
