Maytag Dryer is 28 years old! Has only needed a new belt. Takes longer to dry clothes last 6 months. The vents all cleaned and okay. I Hate to throw anything away but could afford to buy a new one. Question: Is it worth the parts, labor and service call to fix this old of one? Are new dryers more energy saving than mine?

They might be a little more energy efficient, but no way are they built as good as yours. I would replace the drum belt, and the operating thermostat, if you know for sure that the vent is clear. This is a little maintaince that could be the cause of it taking to long to dry. The parts are cheap. Tom www.applianceeducator.com/parts

With more troubleshooting and research online, we decided to try drying the clothes without it being hooked up to any vent and they dried in a very timely manner! We had eliminated it being the vent because during the winter when we disconnected the outside vent and installed a new inside vent ( to keep out cold air) - the dryer was drying slow then too. Regardless , we removed the old outside vent and installed completely new pipes ( which involved removing a gas dryer line first) - and voila - the dryer works fine! So my 28 year old dryer still lives.

That is why I quote "If you know for sure the vent is clear" Everyone always says it is, but most of the times it is not. There you go. Maytag live on. Tom wwww.applianceeducator.com
