When my wife went into our 2nd fridge she noticed that nothing was on, no lights, not cooling, not freezing, nothing. So, we checked the outlet and it had no power. I checked the fuse box and nothing was tripped.

So, I ran an extension cord from a working outlet and when I plugged it in, I have lights, but neither the fridge or freezer is getting cool. There are no noised coming from the fridge what so ever.

Should my first step be to test the overload and relay?

Thanks,
Troy

Yes, that would be the place to start. The compressor after that.

It shouldn't be run using most extension cords. Only a heavy cord and not too long.

It would still work on a short term basis using a normal extension cord correct. As long as it gets 110V, it should run?

Ok, Here is what I have tested so far and have figured out. I tested the ohms on the Fan, The overload, and the compressor. All have passed. I have a non coil relay, so I think it is a SSR, so I am not sure where I can test this. Here is a diagram of the things I tested http://www.appliancepartspros.c...52&diagram_id=107503

Here is something else I have noticed, if I plug in a extension cord that has a 3 prong outlet, then it trips the GFI. If I plug using a 2 prong cord in to the same GFI, then the light comes on, but nothing happens. I have unplugged the compressor and the fan does not come on with the 2 prong extension cord.

Any thoughts on what to test next?

Have you tried manually advancing the defrost timer.
Could be you are stuck in a defrost cycle.

It was the defrost timer. I advanced it and it worked great, I learned the hard way you don't have to take the whole top thing apart to get access to it, haha.

So, here is the lesson, if you test everything for continuity and everything passes, next check the defrost timer.

Thanks for the help.
