I was asked to look at an Amana electric dryer model NED4600YQ0 with s/n M24743748 that had no heat. It would turn on and rotate the drum but no heat was being provided at the vent tube. I checked all the usual items such as the thermal fuse and all thermostats. The rotary dial settings were all checked and no problems were found. The heater element was checked and it was found to be intact with no breaks or shorted wire. The only item left was the timer which is one that uses 2 large modular plugs. The main plug uses 4 wires which are A,B,C,D. The terminals A and C carry the main power for the heater . The timer was dismantled and the contact points for the A and C terminals were indeed badly burned. I was able to carefully remove the metal fingers for the two terminals and clean up the contact points with a file. Removal and reinstallation into the plastic timer case of these items is tricky however and I had done it before with success so I felt confident about it. The timer was reassembled and put back into the control panel and all wiring hooked back up. Normally I would not attempt to do this type of repair but the customer could not afford a new dryer or even a dealer service call. The unit now runs properly and heats well .
