I have had problems in the past with ice build up under the ice bin in the past but have always been able to wiggle it and remove it. I would clear the ice and ice maker would work for awhile. This happened the other day now its frozen in place and I cant remove it. What can I do to remove bin and what is causing this build up? Its not frost but solid ice, almost like the tray is over filling with water. Unit is about 12 years old Thank you

Orlando123, this is likely being caused by an air leak in the seam of the icemaker section. If the full model number of your appliance could be provided, this will allow the most accurate information to be presented.

Unfortunately, forced defrost is not going to affect the ice bin section. If you have a clothes steamer, it can be held about 6" from the bin to warm up the ice and get it to melt. Otherwise, the refrigerator would need to be unplugged with the doors open for about 24 hours. Once the ice bin is clear, the fill tube can be inspected for indications of an ice block and cleared as necessary. The ice dispenser chute would also need to be inspected for any air gaps that may be causing an air leak.
