Serial number PSA9240SF1SS Unit stopped working and now makes a loud humming noise all the time. This noise is accompanied by an electrical burning smell. The only way to stop the noise is to unplug the unit. Plugging it back in starts the noise immediately.

Any idea what could cause this? It does not trip the breaker in my household breaker box.

If you unplug the power cord and let the microwave sit for about 5 minutes, the control panel can be removed to inspect the main control and the wires behind the panel. It sounds like there may be a short in the control but the wires would also need to be inspected for any spots that may be arcing. The control inspection would be looking for any burn/discolored spots on the control.
