My Whirlpool Cabrio topload washer (Model # WTW5640XW3) is not washing clothes properly. Clothes come out dirty or sometimes have detergent residue still on the clothes. Everything seems to be working as it should, but obviously something is amiss. There are no funny sounds or error codes displaying on the unit. Clothes come out appropriately wet, spin cycle works fine, etc.

I've cleaned the detergent tray and the washing machine. Checked all inputs and outputs for obstructions. Checked the drain pump. All the items online told me could be the issue.
I know that the agitator is moving because I can see that the clothes are rotating, but I'm guessing that it isn't working as vigorously as it is supposed to.

Additionally, when I spin the agitator manually (since it is a HE unit, it is basically flat on the bottom as opposed to the longer agitator I'm used to) it moves without any resistance (not sure if this is how it is supposed to act).

My questions are as follows:
- Any suggestions on what could be wrong?
- Am I heading in the right direction with my assessment?
- How can I determine which component of the agitating system is bad?

Any assistance would be appreciated!!

Are you overloading the unit and potentially using too much soap? A tbsp will do
