Motor smell, but can turn freely without the belt.

Motor smell because the tub won't turn clockwise (when you look from under it), it's stuck.
But it will turn counterclockwise (when you look from under it) by moving the plastic pulley manually.
The belt is good. The water pump is good.
I can rotate the transmission clockwise with no problem. It seem the problem is between the transmission and the pulley that touch the belt.

We can find the parts diagram here.

Thanks

The transmission spins when it turns one way and when it turns the other way it should agitate. If its not agitating, the transmission is probably bad. That should happen even if you turn it by hand.

I would recommend saving the $300 plus that a transmission would cost (if you could get one) plus the three or so hours of labor and put that money on another machine, used or new. Sometimes you have to weigh cost VS age and longevity.
