Was thanked: 4 time(s) in 4 post(s)
The icemaker on our Kenmore Refrigerator Model 106.44422602, side-by-side with ice and water dispensers in the door, isn't working.

The symptoms are: I noticed that the icemaker had a some frozen drips coming from the front of the ice tray (about 1/4 to 1/2" long) but no more than that--not anywhere close to a significant amount of water. After that, it produced about one tray of skinny cubes and then stopped working. The red light on the "Infra-red ice maker control panel" is flashing is flashing 2 times with a 1 second delay in between. The icemaker switch is turned "on". The ice bin is empty. However, no water is dispensing into the ice tray in order to make ice.

I've had three separate chats. One agent suggested it may be the ice maker control panel (very expensive), and another suggested it might be the water line to the ice maker (perhaps frozen or clogged), another suggested it might be the optics.

I read the following reply to a question in one of the comments for the Ice Level Control Board: "ANSWER John, Open the freezer door and view the diagnostics 'status' LED. Two (2) pulses followed by a one (1)second delay (repeated) indicates either the flapper door on the emitter is blocking the beam or the optics are faulty. Press in the emitter flapper door to unblock the optics beam. Two (2) pulses followed by a one (1) second delay (repeated) indicates the Optics W10757851 are faulty. If the LED is on steady the Optics are working properly." The red light on my unit is flashing 2 pulses with a 1 second delay. I pressed in the flapper door, and the red light then went steady, so according those instructions, the optics on my unit are working properly. Could the problem be something with the flapper door? Can I tape the flapper door shut to see if the icemaker starts working?

I'm just not sure where to start other than first checking the water line.

Any help would be so much appreciated--thanks!!

Followup to my original post: Turned off the refrigerator, removed the icemaker and let the freezer defrost. There was a plug of ice in the black water dispenser "nipple" that fits into the icemaker, which fell out when defrosting. The owner's manual says that you have to wait 24 hours for ice to start dispensing, so we just turned everything back on and are crossing our fingers that was the problem. The only thing that bothers me is that the red light is still flashing 2 pulses followed by a 1 second delay. When I push in the flapper door, the red light stays steady. I'm hoping that the flashing means this is normal operation, but I can't find anywhere whether this is case or not. Can anyone answer this question? Thanks!
