Top load washer sounded like an airplane was taking off during spin cycle. Suspected bearings were bad. Purchased bearing and seal kit and bearing press tool. When installing bearings, had a difficult time getting top bearing to seat properly. 1st trial, noticed that the cover to the motor stator was rubbing because the shaft wasn't low enough. Removed stator and hit top of shaft with hammer to expose more thread underneath. Definetly improved the rubbing, but a little rub was noticed. Decided top complete install and tried washer. Spin noise solved however, rubbing is issue. Didn't use and ordered 2nd kit and plan to reinstall. Any suggestions on how to get that top bearing down in outer tub basin such that I have maximum thread on bottom of shaft. Instructions state that bottom bearing should only have 1/8" exposed (which it did) but how do we get top bearing to seat properly? Should the spacer tub between the two bearings have play in it? Thought about using a little WD40 on top bearing edges to help it slip.

We removed parts and reused the bearing press tool. We originally failed to use the bearing that came with the tool. With this thrust bearing on the tool, the top bearing popped further into place. Resintalled all the parts and rubbing was gone. Now we are just waiting for sealant to cure, but feeling pretty confident that the problems have been fixed.
